Today marks 60 years since the Aberfan disaster, one of the darkest days in Welsh history. On 21 October 1966, 144 people lost their lives, including 116 children, when a coal spoil tip collapsed and engulfed Pantglas Junior School and nearby homes.
Today, we remember those who died, honour the survivors and families affected, and reflect on the lasting impact the tragedy has had on generations of Welsh communities.
As we mark this important anniversary, we take a moment to remember the people of Aberfan and the lessons of responsibility, safety and community that remain as relevant today as they were 60 years ago.
